1-Kings

1-Kings Summary

Much like the Book of Samuel, the Book of Kings is split into two parts, 1 Kings and 2 Kings. Both books tell a history of ancient Israel and Judah from the death of David to the release of his successor Jehoiachin from imprisonment in Babylon. The time period of Kings is over 400 years.

Kings begins with the death of David, who God promised an eternal dynasty. His son Solomon succeeds him. Eventually, the kingdom of Israel is destroyed because of its reigning evil kings. Some of the kings of Judah are good, but most are evil, and eventually God destroys this kingdom also.
