Deuteronomy Summary

Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Christian Old Testament. It includes three sermons delivered to the Israelites by Moses on the plains of Moab. This occurred shortly before Moses and the Israelites entered the Promised Land.

The first sermon of the Book of Deuteronomy outlines the people’s forty years in the wilderness. Those years lead the Israelites to the moment of that sermon. It ends with a declaration that God’s people should observe his laws.

The second sermon reminds the Israelites of the need for only one God and observance of the laws He has given them. And finally, the third offers the comfort that even if Israel proves to be unfaithful, forgiveness can be earned through repentance.
